The beautiful landscape of our province encompasses the different natural zones of steppe, khangai, and Gobi Desert, creating a spectacular advantage for us to offer different types of tourism. Therefore, by only touring through Bayankhongor province, the tourists visiting our country will have a rare chance to experience three different natural zones on Mongolia and three different ways and unique cultural features of a nomadic lifestyle.

Selenge aimag is located in the north of Mongolia only about 130km from Ulaanbaatar. Darkhan-Uul aimag is located as an enclave inside Selenge. It is population-wise the 3rd largest aimag with 97,000 inhabitants. Its capital Sukhbaatar is located in the north of Selenge close to the Russian border. Sukhbaatar is the northernmost railway station on the Trans-Mongolian Railway. Selenge is conveniently accessible via 345km of paved roads connecting Ulaanbaatar with the Russian border crossing in Altanbulag. Altanbulag also hosts a free trade zone. Additional 180km of paved roads connect Selenge with the cities of Darkhan and Erdenet (second and third largest cities in Mongolia). Selenge consists of 17 subdivisions (Sums). Uvs aimag is located in the west of Mongolia. In the north Uvs borders Russia. It is approximately 1,400km from Ulaanbaatar. The capital Ulaangom is located in the west close to Uvs lake. Most roads are dirt roads that make airplanes the best means of transport to reach Uvs. Aero Mongolia and Hunnu air offer direct flights between Ulaangom and Ulaanbaatar. Uvs has 73,000 inhabitants (# 11) and an area of 70,000 km² (# 13). It consists of 19 subdivisions (Sums). Uvs geography features a wide range of landscapes. 8% is mountainous wooded steppe, 15% high mountains, 38% steppe and 39% Gobi desert. It is also characterized by the biggest lake of Mongolia, Uvs Lake which is highly saline and is the remainder of an ancient huge saline body of water.
